Norwegian Blastr to build green steel plant in Finland

Norwegian Blastr's plan to produce green steel at its steel plants will generate approximately EUR 300 million a year in tax revenues for the Finnish economy.

Norwegian Blastr to build green steel plant in Finland

Blastr Green Steel has announced that Europe's first integrated ultra-low CO2 steel plant will be located in Inkoo, Finland. Mark Bula has been appointed CEO to lead the project, which is estimated to create around 5,600 permanent full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs. Blastr Green Steel's plan to produce green steel includes the use of hydrogen instead of coal, the use of raw materials made with renewable energy, and the production of steel with over 90% lower CO2 emissions, resulting in a steel value chain with a reduced carbon footprint.

With 35 years of experience, Mark Bula will lead the green steel project: "Inkoo in Finland is an ideal and unique location to produce ultra-low CO₂ steel products. The plant provides clean electricity, strong grid connectivity for a deep and ice-free harbour, as well as short access to the attractive and growing European low-emission steel market."

The plant construction of the Blastr Green Steel project, which is expected to have a positive impact for Finland, will take approximately 3 years, and it is estimated that it will take 2030 to start full production.
