Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen stated that the CBAM will ensure equal pricing for production emissions of products produced or imported in both Norway and the European Union (EU). Eriksen noted that this arrangement will have positive effects for Norwegian industry and employment.
The government decided last fall to support the implementation of CBAM in Norway. The Ministry of Climate and Environment and the Norwegian Environment Agency will be responsible for implementing the scheme. The main aim of the scheme is to protect the competitiveness of European industry and prevent production from shifting to countries with low or zero carbon pricing. It also aims to encourage Norway and countries outside the EU to introduce carbon pricing.
Minister of Finance Jens Stoltenberg stated that CBAM could be an important tool for Norwegian industry to remain competitive and encourage other countries to reduce their emissions. The Norwegian Environment Agency will take the lead role in implementing the regulation, while the Tax Agency and Customs will also play an active role.
