The disagreement continues in the collective bargaining negotiations between the Türk Metal, United Metal-İş and Özçelik-İş unions, which are the unions representing workers in the metal sector, and the Turkish Metal Industrialists' Union (MESS). Türk Metal and United Metal-İş announced that they did not accept MESS's last offer today.
In the statement made by the Turkish Metal Union, the following information was shared:
"At the meeting held today (January 13, 2024) at the Head Office upon the invitation of MESS, the Employer side decided to first increase the hourly wages by 32% for the first 6 months, effective from September 1, 2023, and after the percentage increase is applied, the hourly wages will be increased by 20.5 percent." He proposed to increase the hourly wages by 1.5 TL for each year of seniority, limited to 10 years of seniority. The total return of this raise package offered by MESS to the average wage is 73%.
MESS has also proposed a 90% annual increase in social aid, effective from September 1, 2023. He reiterated his proposal to increase wages in proportion to the inflation of the relevant six months for the next six months, and to increase social rights in proportion to annual inflation.
In addition, MESS continued to keep on the table offers that would take our acquired rights back, such as the 3-year contract, the abolition of complementary health insurance, and the deduction of bonuses for days missed from work. "Our delegation did not accept the offers and ended the meeting."
In the statement made by United Metal-İş, "We stated that we expect a new offer from MESS that the workers will accept, otherwise we will implement our strikes that will start on January 19 in the strongest possible way."
