Natural gas prices continue to decline in Europe

Natural gas prices continue to decline in Europe

The April futures contract price, traded at TTF, the Netherlands-based virtual natural gas trading point with the deepest depth in Europe, hit historical levels with 345 euros on Monday.

The April natural gas contract price opened today at 205 euros per megawatt hour.

Prices decreased by 10 percent to 194 euros per megawatt-hour, compared to yesterday's closing level of 215 euros, at 11.30 am Turkey time.

The possibility of a European ban on natural gas purchases from Russia was driving up natural gas prices.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's statement on March 7 that it was a conscious decision to continue the activities of commercial enterprises in the field of energy supply with Russia and his defense of energy imports from Russia caused a slackening in prices.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's remarks that they had imported enough LNG to last until the end of winter also played a role in the fall in natural gas prices in Europe.
