Metso Outotec Corporation, the Finland-based global engineering and technology company, has announced an investment of EUR 8 million for the construction of a state-of-the-art direct reduced iron melting pilot furnace in Pori.
The new facility will enable customised customer pilot testing to demonstrate the applicability and results of Metso's Outotec DRI melting furnace technology to help decarbonise the steel industry.
Construction of the plant has started and first production is expected in the second half of 2024. When combined with the direct reduction plant, Metso's Outotec DRI smelter will replace conventional blast furnaces in production, helping to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
