According to him, representatives of the Metinvest-Trametal and Danieli companies held two meetings with the provincial administration and the city council of Piombino. So far, the authorities have not made a final decision, but in general they support the project, provided that its implementation will use the most modern technologies and measures will be taken to protect the environment and protect the health of the local population.
Metinvest plans to invest about 2 billion euros in the project, called “Digital Green Steel”. Steel at the new enterprise is planned to be smelted in an electric arc furnace. Its capacity will be 2.7 million tons of hot-rolled steel per year. Launch is tentatively scheduled for 2027.
