As a result of the system failure in Kojima Industries, one of its local suppliers in Aichi province, Toyota decided to suspend production.
According to the statement made by Toyota, the company stopped 28 production lines in 14 factories in Japan, including Hino Motor and Daihatsu Motor.
Cabinet Chief Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said at a press conference that the system malfunction was "caused by a cyberattack".
Drawing attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Matsuno called for Japanese companies to be cautious "against possible cyber attacks".
Kojima Industries announced in a statement that its computer servers were exposed to virus attack, government officials were informed.
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio stated that the relevant organizations were investigating the incident and said that "it is difficult to answer without confirmation" regarding the possibility that "Russia may come after" the attack.
