Turkish Statistical Institute ( TUIK) announced the labor input indices for the April-June period.
The employment index, which includes industry, construction and trade-services sectors, increased by 3.3% yoy in the second quarter. This increase varied across sub-sectors: 0.9% in industry, 10.2% in construction and 3.5% in trade-services. The total hours worked index increased by 1.3% y-o-y in the same period. However, different trends were observed among sub-sectors: There was a 0.7% decline in the industrial sector, an 8% increase in construction and a 1.3% rise in trade and services.
The gross wage-salary index also increased in the second quarter, rising by 111.1% y-o-y. This increase was recorded as 104.3% in the industrial sector, 126.1% in the construction sector and 114.2% in the trade-services sectors. However, total employment index decreased by 0.1% in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter.
Analyzed by sub-sectors, there was a 0.9% decline in the industrial sector, a 0.3% increase in the construction sector and a 0.4% rise in the trade-services sectors.
The hourly labor cost index also showed a remarkable increase. In the second quarter, it rose by 113.7% compared to the same period last year. This increase was realized as follows by sub-sectors: 111.8% in the industrial sector, 111.7% in the construction sector and 116.6% in the trade-services sector. In the same period, the hourly earnings index increased by 108.3%. Analyzing by sub-sectors, there was an increase of 105.6% in the industrial sector, 109.4% in the construction sector and 111.4% in the trade-services sectors.
