Kyrgyz-Uzbek joint auto assembly plant launches trial operation

The plant, located in Sokuluk district of Chui province, will produce various brands of vehicles, including Chevrolet, Daewoo and Isuzu. The joint effort will produce 12 different car models, marking an important milestone in the development of the automotive industry in both countries.

The project was launched on 27 January 2023 during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan, when an agreement on cooperation in the production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles was signed. The project is divided into three phases, each aimed at gradually increasing production capacity and localising production.

In the first phase, which will last for the first three years, the plant plans to produce 10,000 passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This phase will employ 500 workers and localisation levels of 5-10%, with a focus on creating a stable production process and achieving target output volumes.

The second stage will see production goals increase to 20,000 cars and commercial vehicles, with the workforce doubling to 1,000 people and the localization rate rising to 15-20%. This phase will introduce the production of car components in addition to vehicle assembly, significantly boosting localization by incorporating more locally produced parts.

The final stage aims to maximize production with a target of 30,000 cars and commercial vehicles. The workforce will expand to 2,000 people, further solidifying the plant's role in the regional automotive industry.
