Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah stated US President Donald Trump's economic policies could have global repercussions. Speaking at the World Summit of Governments in Dubai, Al-Sabah emphasized that Trump's decisions are only aimed at protecting his own interests and could have negative consequences on the world economy.
Trump had announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports. Although this step was said to be aimed at protecting the US industry, concerns rose that it could increase tensions in international trade and trigger a global trade war. Al-Sabah said that Trump's economic policies could affect not only the US but the entire world economy and that countries should be careful against this situation.
During the signing ceremony at the White House, Trump announced that he would impose retaliatory tariffs against countries that impose tariffs on US products. He also said he was considering additional tariffs on automobile, semiconductor and pharmaceutical sectors.
