Kroman Çelik, which continues its activities under Yücel Group of Companies, came to the agenda with the Non-Hazardous Waste Recovery and Landfill Facility project in the Gebze quarries region last year. Later, the company submitted the EIA Report for the project and entered the approval process. On 28 November 2023, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change reported that the EIA approval could not be obtained. The latest details about the terminated project are that the company has started a new approval process by making an EIA application again for the project in question.
The project, which is known to be worth 94 million liras, was intended to use the material obtained by passing the slag waste through the crushing-separation unit in highway infrastructure materials and fillings, in the closure of abandoned quarries and open pit mines that have ceased to function, and in land correction.
Kroman Çelik was planning to construct the waste project in its own area of 99 thousand 32 square metres, but the citizens in the neighbourhood complained about the dust generated by the facilities and objected to the project.
