According to data from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan's crude steel production decreased in August 2023. In August 2023, it decreased by 2.9 percent compared to 2022 and amounted to 7.2 million tons.
The production of blast furnaces decreased by 1.2 percent on an annual basis and fell to 5.5 million tons. The production of electric furnaces decreased by 8.1 percent and was recorded as 1.64 million tons.
Looking at the first eight months of 2023, Japan produced 58.4 million tons of crude steel, with a 3.8 percent decrease on an annual basis.
