Japan's steel and a subsidiary of Nippon Steel, Osaka steel is taking a bold step towards sustainability. They've announced a substantial investment of approximately JPY 8.7 billion ($59.02 million) to introduce a cutting-edge electric arc furnace at their Sakai plant. This move is driven by their commitment to energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.
The innovative electric arc furnace, aptly named EcoArc-light, will be sourced from the renowned Japanese engineering firm, Steel Plantech. Its implementation is expected to yield multiple benefits for Osaka Steel, including enhanced cost competitiveness and significant reductions in both carbon emissions and waste. This forward-looking initiative is set to reshape the future of steel production at Osaka Steel, with EcoArc-light slated for commissioning by the year 2025.
