Japan's ferrous scrap exports decreased by 9% in January-September

According to Japan Customs data, the country's ferrous scrap exports reached around 4.7 million tons in the first nine months of this year. However, this amount shows a 9% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam has emerged as the largest buyer of Japan's ferrous scrap exports, importing around 1.8 million tons, a 61% increase compared to the previous year. In contrast, South Korea, Japan's second-largest market, reduced its imports by 42% to around 1.23 million tons. Taiwan imported 477,000 tons, a 36% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Looking at September, Japan's ferrous scrap exports decreased by 21% compared to September last year, falling to around 416,000 tons. Overall, the decline in Japan's ferrous scrap exports is seen as a result of changing demand conditions in the Asian scrap market.
