According to the data shared by JISF (Japan Iron and Steel Federation), in June 2023, Japan's crude steel production fell by 1.7 percent year-on-year to 7 million tons. Compared to May 2023, there was a 4 percent decrease.
In June 2023, converter steel production increased for the first time in 18 months, while production of electric furnace steel remained the same.
Looking at the January-June 2023 period, the cumulative production volume decreased to 43 million tons with a decrease of 4.7 percent compared to the January-June 2022 period. Looking at the production volume on the basis of furnaces, the converter steel production volume increased by 0.4% year-on-year to 5 million tons, while the electric furnace steel production volume decreased by 6 percent to 2 million tons.
