Prime Minister Kishida met with German Chancellor Scholz in the capital Tokyo.
The two leaders held a joint press conference after the 50-minute meeting.
In his speech here, Scholz said both countries are willing to draw the right lessons from the economic dependencies created by global crises such as Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War.
Kishida said the two countries would increase cooperation to protect and strengthen an international order based on the rule of law and freedom.
Stating that they want to increase their influence in strategic areas such as semiconductors, chips and batteries, Kishida said that they will share experience in establishing durable supply chains.
In a joint statement on the meeting, it was stated that the two countries agreed on strengthening cooperation for economic security and establishing a legal framework for bilateral defense cooperation activities.
In addition, Kishida and Scholz agreed to maintain harsh sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine for continuing its attacks on Ukraine.
