Japan has banned the export of steel, steel products, aluminum and aluminum products to Russia as part of its latest war-related sanctions in Ukraine.
The ban also covers aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, spacecraft and parts, construction equipment, aviation and marine engines, fiber optics, electrical equipment, measurement and optical equipment, photographic equipment, toys and scale models.
The export restrictions will come into effect on April 7, 2023.
Canada also banned imports of aluminum and steel products from Russia in early March. From April 1, 2023, the United States will impose a 70% tariff on pig iron imports from Russia. Steel products production, domestic demand and export sales in Russia decreased in 2022 due to sanctions, but the decline was less than the markets expected.
