According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), scrap imports into Pakistan amounted to approximately 223,000 tons in January.

January data on Pakistan's scrap and steel imports has been announced

This figure represents a decline of 7.6% compared to the previous month but reflects a notable increase of 12% compared to the same month last year. Despite the month-on-month decline in scrap imports, the year-on-year increase suggests a steady demand for scrap materials in Pakistan's steel industry.

In the same period, imports of steel products totaled around 216,000 tons, marking a significant month-on-month increase of 16% but a slight year-on-year decrease of 4.6%.

The value of Pakistan's scrap imports in January reached approximately US$100 million, showing a month-on-month decrease of 7% and a year-on-year decline of 11%. Conversely, the import value of steel products amounted to US$156 million, indicating a substantial month-on-month decrease of 28% but a modest year-on-year increase of 6%.

The contrasting trends in import values for scrap and steel products underscore fluctuations in market dynamics and pricing pressures within Pakistan's steel industry, influenced by both domestic and global factors.
