Italy replaces Iran on the list of the world's 10th largest steel producer

According to the data published by the World Steel Association, this year Iran has decreased due to the problems experienced in its steel production volume. After this decline, Italy replaced Iran as the world's largest steel producer, climbs to 10th place.

According to the report, in March 2023, the gas shortage, and Nowruz holiday lead to 2 million ton decrease in the country’s steel production. This figure recorded less production than Italy's 2.2 million tons of steel production, leaving it behind in the top 10 steel producing countries.

Compared to March 2022, the top 10 steel producing countries this year are as follows;

China 95.7 m/t, up 6.9%

India 11.4 m/t, up 2.7%

Japan 7.5 m/t, down 5.9%

USA down 2.1% to 6.7 m/t

Russia's 6.6 m/t, up 0.4%

South Korea 5.8 m/t, up 1.9%

Germany 3.3 m/t, down 0.5%

Brazil 2.7 m/t, down 8.7%

Türkiye 2.7 m/t, down 18.6%

Italy 2.2 m/t, up 2.7%
