Italy minimized its steel imports from non-EU countries ("Tertiary-third countries"), excluding the UK, by 7.6% year-on-year to 8.071 million tons, while exports of steel products increased by 5.5% year-on-year.
As a result of the increase in steel exports, Italy's steel exports reached 2.46 million tons in comparison to the same period last year.
Imports of rolled products from third countries decreased by 9.4% y-o-y and remained stable at 11.2% y-o-y in January-September 2023. In particular, rebar imports surged by 162.5% yoy in the last 9 months, while wire rod imports decreased by 20.9% yoy.
Turkish steelmakers' imported rolled steel consumption rose by 34.1% y-o-y to 240,000 tons, while Italy's exports of rolled products in the 9-month period totaled nearly 600,000 tons.
