According to the latest data from the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production for May 2024, Iran's crude steel production increased by 2.1% compared to the same month last year, reaching 3.3 million tonnes. This figure also showed a 22.2% increase compared to the previous month, April. Iran's total crude steel production for the first five months of 2024 amounted to 14 million tonnes, marking a 9.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Iran climbed three positions in global crude steel production rankings, reaching 7th place among the top steel-producing countries in May, surpassing Germany and Türkiye. In the Middle East region, steel production increased by 4.6% in the same month, rising to 5.2 million tonnes.
Global crude steel production for May 2024 totaled 165.1 million tonnes (Mt), showing a 1.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Looking ahead, industry experts anticipate continued fluctuations in production levels influenced by market demand, raw material availability, and global economic factors. The ongoing shifts in regional production highlight the diverse landscape of the steel industry and its critical role in supporting infrastructure, manufacturing, and economic development worldwide.
