According to EU General Court records, Intel firm has started legal proceedings against the EU Commission.
In its filing, Intel argued that the amount of fine returned to it was insufficient after winning the Commission's case against the fine.
Stating that it paid a fine of 1 billion 60 million Euros to the EU in 2009, the company reminded that the legal process regarding the penalty was concluded in its favor in January of this year.
Pointing out that the commission paid him 38 million Euros as interest with the principal, the company said that for the amount of the penalty in question, at least 1.25 percent of the refinancing rate of the European Central Bank (ECB) should be paid, and that this rate should be 3 percent as a penalty. He demanded it be calculated as .5.
Intel asked the court to pay the Commission 593 million euros in compensation with the calculation in question.
About the process
In 2009, the EU Commission fined the USA company Intel with a fine of 1.06 billion euros on the grounds that it exhibited anti-competitive behavior in the market by applying discounts to computer manufacturers.
The EU General Court, which is within the structure of the European Court of Justice, the highest court of the EU, decided in January this year the case that Intel filed against the fine imposed by the EU Commission.
The court ruled that the Commission's decision, which imposed a fine of 1.06 billion euros on Intel 13 years ago, was annulled.
The European Court of Justice had passed a decision last year that would allow default interest to be awarded on fines paid in antitrust cases that were annulled.
