Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced that Freeport McMoRan and AMNT will start copper production at their new facilities, and that the export of concentrated copper will be banned along with it. It is reported that it will enter into force in May 2024.
According to President Joko Widodo, this blocking of concentrated copper exports had been planned for a long time, as Indonesia deals with high value-added products and the companies that export them. This blocking also followed Indonesia's decisions regarding bauxite and nickel.
