According to a government document, refineries IOC, Hindustan Petroleum and MRPL will activate a total production capacity of 14,800 t/y by 2025-26, while Bharat Petroleum, Numaligarh Refinery and Chennai Petroleum will have a production capacity of 16,000 t/y by 2030.
This brings the refineries' total green hydrogen production to 30,800 t/y, surpassing Delhi's production target of about 4.97 million t/y for private sector companies such as Reliance Industries, NTPC, Adani, JSW Energy, ReNew Power and Acme Solar.
Teli said on March 13, "Refineries in the country are already using hydrogen for domestic consumption, which has the potential to be converted into green hydrogen."
As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the government has spent an initial 197.44 billion rupees ($2.39 billion) to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and make India a global hydrogen hub.
The government detailed plans to promote domestic hydrogen production and create an electrolyzer capacity of 60-100GW by 2030, and also developed 125GW of renewable energy capacity for private use in green hydrogen production and related transmission.
India's ministry for ports, shipping and waterways has also designated Gujarat's Deendayal, Odisha's Paradip and Tamil Nadu's VO Chidambaranar ports to be converted into hydrogen hubs for processing, storing and producing renewable hydrogen by 2030.
The government will support increasing the share of green hydrogen use in its industrial sector to 25pc by replacing grey hydrogen, prime minister Narendra Modi said at the India Energy Week on 6 February.
