According to the information compiled by the SteelRadar reporter, the largest shipbreaking facilities in the world are located in Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan and Turkey.
The world ship fleet is approximately 90,000 ships and the average life span of a ship is known as 20-25 years. The average number of large ships scrapped each year is around 500-700, but when ships of all sizes are taken into account, this number can go up to 3,000. Ninety percent of the world's shipbreaking is done in Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan and Turkey.

Alang Shipbreaking Yard is claimed to be the world's largest shipbreaking yard, responsible for the dismantling of a significant number of end-of-life separated cargo and cargo ships from around the world. Other large facilities in the scale of Alang Shipyard are known as Aliağa Shipyard (Turkey), Chittagong Shipyard (Bangladesh) and Gadani Shipyard (Pakistan).
