Southeast Asian Steel Institute (SEAISI) data are as follows:
Indonesia, increased its flat product imports by 10% in 2022. It decreased its exports by 1.9% compared to 2021. Hot rolled flats imports increased by 2%, while exports decreased by 7%. Cold rolled steel exports increased by 4% and imports by 2%.
In Malaysia, total imports decreased by 6% and total exports decreased by 6.8%. Hot rolled sheet exports fell by 15%, while imports remained unchanged. Cold rolled sheet imports fell by 19%, while imports remained the same as in 2021.
Singapore and the Philippines since they do not own these products, they import them. Hot rolled sheet shipments to the Philippines increased by 7%. Cold rolled sheets, on the other hand, fell 29%.
While Singapore's exports amounted to 300 thousand tons, its imports remained unchanged.
Vietnam’s sheet exports decreased by 29%, and sheet imports decreased by 8%. Compared to 2021, Vietnamese companies purchased 1 million tons less hot rolled sheet.
Although Thailand's there is no clear data for sheet metal import and export, it is thought that there is a decrease of more than 10% in both imports and exports.
SEAISI (Southeast Asia Steel Institute) officials stated that Southeast Asia is under the threat of overproduction, and capacities can be developed to produce 75 million tons of steel per year by 2026.
