Yıldız Demir Çelik Deputy General Manager Selçuk Yılmaz, who was a speaker at the Global Steel Summit held in Dubai, evaluated the situation in the Turkish steel market and emphasized the challenges in the sector in his presentation focusing on the world crude steel production growth rates in September 2023.
According to Yılmaz, in the first 9 months of 2023, world crude steel production increased by 0.1%, while Türkiye's crude steel production decreased by 10.1%. Crude steel production increased in Africa, Asia and India.
Comparing Türkiye's total steel production and consumption in general, Yılmaz explained that steel production in Türkiye decreased by 3.7% compared to last year, while consumption increased by 17.6%. He noted that Türkiye has become one of the world's leading exporters of long steel products, especially since February.
Yılmaz said that flat steel production in Türkiye is in a position in contrast to long products, but emphasized that consumption is high. Stating that they are net importers of flat steel, Yılmaz discussed the consumption rates between 2022 and 2023 in detail in his presentation.
