World crude steel production increased in October

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) evaluated the world crude steel production of 71 countries in October 2023. According to this report, crude steel production reached 150.0 million tons (Mt) in October 2023, an increase of 0.6% compared to the same month last year.

Africa produced 1.9 million tonnes in October 2023, an increase of 3.5% compared to October 2022. Asia and Oceania produced 108.8 million tons, with an increase of 0.8%. EU (27) produced 10.6 million tons, with a decrease of 7.1%. Europe, Other produced 3.6 million tonnes, down 0.2%. The Middle East produced 5.0 Mt, up 5.0%. North America produced 9.3 million tonnes, the same level as in October 2022. Russia and other CIS + Ukraine produced 7.4 million tons with an increase of 12.9%. South America produced 3.4 million tons, down 8.7%.

Among the 71 countries, the countries that will produce approximately 97% of the total world crude steel production in 2022 are:

Africa: Algeria*, Egypt, Libya, Morocco*, South Africa, Tunisia

Asia and Oceania: Australia, China, India, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Vietnam

European Union (27): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden

Europe, Other: Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Türkiye, United Kingdom

Middle East: Bahrain*, Iran, Iraq*, Jordan*, Kuwait*, Oman*, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen*

North America: Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, United States

Russia and other CIS + Ukraine: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine

South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

The 10 countries that produce the most steel

China produced 79.1 million tonnes in October 2023, down 1.8% compared to October 2022.

India produced 12.1 million tons with an increase of 15.1%.

Japan produced 7.5 million tons, an increase of 2.6%.

The United States produced 6.8 million tons, up 3.4%.

It is estimated that Russia produced 6.3 million tons, an increase of 9.5%.

South Korea produced 5.5 million tons, an increase of 6.5%.

 Germany produced 2.9 million tons, with a decrease of 8.8%.

Türkiye produced 3.0 million tons with an increase of 4.2%.

It is estimated that Brazil produced 2.6 million tons, with a decrease of 10.2%.

Iran produced 3.1 million tons with an increase of 3.5%.
