The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) announced crude steel production figures for October 2024. Accordingly, world crude steel production of 71 countries amounted to 15.2 million tons (Mt) in October 2024, increased by 0.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Crude steel production by region
In October, Africa's crude steel production fell by 0.4% y-o-y to 2 million tons. In Asia and Oceania, production decreased by 0.9% to 110.3 million tons. The EU (27) produced 11.3 million tons of steel, increased by 5.7%, while the rest of Europe produced 3.4 million tons, decreased by 6.2%. Production in the Middle East increased by 5.4% to 5.0 million tons. In North America, production decreased by 3.6% to 8.8 million tons. Production in Russia and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and Ukraine decreased by 12.2% to 6.7 million tons. South America produced 3.8 million tons of crude steel, increased by 7.2%.
Steel giant China's crude steel production rose 2.9% y-o-y to 81.9 million tons in October. India's crude steel output increase 1.7% to 12.5 million tons, while Japan produced 6.9 million tons, decreased by 7.8%. The US produced 6.6 million tons of steel, decreased by 2%, while Russia produced 5.6 million tons, decreased 15.2%. South Korea's output decline 18.3% to 4.5 million tons. Germany produced 3.2 million tons of crude steel, increased by 14.7%, Türkiye 3 million tons, increased by 0.7%, and Brazil 3.1 million tons, increased by 16.2%. Iran's production decreased by 1.9% to 3 million tons.
