World Steel Association announced world crude steel production data for 71 countries reporting to the World Steel Association. Accordingly, world crude steel production decreased by 0.9% to 1 billion 839.4 million tons in 2024. December ranges increased by 5.6% compared to the same month of the previous year to 144.5 million tons (Mt).
In 2024, crude steel production in China, Japan, the US, Russia and South Korea declined, while crude steel production in India, Germany, Türkiye, Brazil and Iran increased.
In December, Africa produced 1.9 million tons, a decrease of 1% compared to the same month last year. In the same period, Asia and Oceania produced 106.3 million tons, up 9%. The EU (27) produced 9.6 million tons, up 7.2%. Europe, Other produced 3.3 million tons, a decrease of 14.3%, while the Middle East produced 4.6 million tons, a decrease of 4.5%. North America produced 8.8 million tons, a decrease of 4.3%. Russia and other CIS + Ukraine produced 6.8 million tons, a decrease of 6.8%. South America produced 3.1 million tons, a decrease of 3.8%.
Steel giant China's crude steel production will decrease by 1.7% in 2024, reaching a record high of 1,005.1 billion tons and increasing by 11.8% in intervals. 76 million tons of crude steel were produced in China. India, which ranked second in the world crude steel production ranking in 2024, produced 149.6 million tons of crude steel with an increase of 6.3%. Japan produced 84 million tons with a decrease of 3.4%, the USA produced 79.5 million tons with a decrease of 2.4%, Russia produced 70.7 million tons with a decrease of 7%, South Korea produced 63.5 million tons with a decrease of 4.7%, Germany produced 37.2 million tons with a decrease of 5.2%, and Türkiye produced 36.9 million tons of crude steel with an increase of 9.4%.
