World crude steel production decreased by 5.3% in December

According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) report, world crude steel production for 71 countries was 135.7 million tons (Mt) in December, decreasing by 5.3% compared to the same month last year. Total global crude steel production in 2023 was 1,882.7 mt.

According to data released by the World Steel Association (WorldSteel), global crude steel production decreased by 5.3% y-o-y to 135.7 million metric tons (Mt) in December. China, the largest producer and consumer of the metal, reduced its crude steel output by 14.9% to 67.4 million tons in December.

India produced 12.1 million tons of crude steel in the same period, up by 9.5%, while Japan produced 7.0 Mt, increasing by 1.1%. The US produced 6.8 million tons of crude steel, up by 7.6%, while Russia produced 6.0 million tons, up by 4.3%. South Korea produced 5.4 million tons of crude steel, up by 11.9%, while Germany produced 2.6 million tons, down by 2.3%.

Türkiye's crude steel production increased by 21.2% to 3.2 million tons in December.
