The World Steel Association (WorldSteel) announced crude steel production figures for April 2024. According to the data, world crude steel production of 71 countries amounted to 155.7 million tons (Mt) in April 2024, down by 5% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Africa's crude steel production in April was up by 1.4% compared to April 2023, producing 1.8 Mt. Asia and Oceania produced 114.8 Mt, down by 5.8%.
EU (27) countries produced 11.3 Mt in the month, up by 1.1%, while Europe produced 3.4 Mt, down by 2.6%. The Middle East produced 4.6 Mt, down by 8.2%, North America 8.9 Mt, down by 5.2%, Russia and other CIS + Ukraine 7.4 Mt, down by 3.5%. South America produced 3.4 Mt, down by 3.9%.
Top 10 steel producing countries
In April 2024, China produced 85.9 Mt, down by 7.2% from April 2023. India produced 12.1 Mt, up by 3.6%. Japan produced 7.1 Mt, down by 2.5%. The United States produced 6.7 Mt, down by 2.8%. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.2 Mt, down by 5.7%. South Korea produced 5.1 Mt, down by 10.4%. Germany is estimated to have produced 3.4 Mt, up by 6.4%. Türkiye produced 2.8 Mt, up by 4.5%. Brazil is reported to have produced 2.7 Mt, down by 2.1%. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.7 Mt, down by 12.3%.
