Work begins on new iron processing plant in Algeria

A delegation of representatives of Chinese companies, together with the Algerian Iron and Steel Company (FERAAL), conducted a site inspection in the Naâma governorate. The delegation assessed the technical infrastructure, land preparation, energy and water supply, as well as transportation networks for the plant to be built in the industrial zone in Harchaïa.

The new plant is expected to have an annual processing capacity of 9 million tons of iron ore concentrate and will be built on an area of approximately 500 hectares. It will use advanced technology to produce "semi-finished iron ore squares" for concrete reinforcement and is expected to be operational in 2028. The project will also include the construction of a new 318-kilometer-long railway line to transport iron ore from Gara Djebilet to Naâma.
