Sergey Butckikh, First Deputy General Manager of Akkuyu Nükleer JSC and NPP Construction Director Sergey Butckikh answered journalists' questions during the site visit of the mayors of the cities surrounding the Paks NPP in Hungary.
Reminding that all 4 units are being built at the site at the same time, Butckikh said: "Akkuyu NPP site is the largest nuclear power plant site in the world. On April 27, we passed the stage of supplying fresh nuclear fuel, which is very important for the project. I would like to congratulate the Republic of Turkey because it has now become a member of the nuclear club."
"Almost all of the electricity transmission lines have been completed"
Stating that the work at Akkuyu NPP is progressing in accordance with the project schedule, Butckikh said:
"In the first unit, most of the construction works have already been completed. We are now moving on to the testing processes of technological processes and equipment. In accordance with the intergovernmental agreement signed between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey, we have a condition. That condition is related to the entire construction. After all approvals and licenses are obtained, we have 7 years to put a unit into commercial operation. Since we received the construction license for the first power unit in April 2018, we calculate the 7-year period from that date. Almost all of the electricity transmission lines of our power plant have already been completed. We are also making the necessary preparations on our side."
"We are making preparations for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey"
Emphasizing that the work that will take place in the field this year is very important for the project, Butckikh said:
"We are preparing for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey. This date is very important for both Turkey and us because we work here as a family. Therefore, we have an obligation to complete most of the construction work on the first unit. We are now delivering the equipment for the second unit. As we did with the first unit, the installation of equipment in the other units is progressing on schedule."
