The welded pipe market in Europe is facing a strong volume and demand contraction, with prices decreasing to unsustainable levels. Some restocking is expected in the next few weeks as stocks are at very low levels at both distributors and end users. In Italy, pipe prices averaged €800/ton ($880) ex-works.
Re-rollers are considering lowering discounts by a few percentage points from 1 July, i.e. an increase of around €40/t. Pipe producers faced production and freight costs around 30% higher than in pre-pandemic years.
HRC values in Italy, which are between €630-650/t ex-works, are expected to increase due to higher import values and depleted import quotas.
