During the month, Vietnam imported 3.26 million tonnes of coal, up 60.29% y-o-y and down 34.76% from 4.99 million tonnes in August.
In terms of import value, Vietnam's coal imports in September totalled $424 million, up 38.72% y-o-y but down 28.24% m-o-m.
Indonesia was the main supplier in September with 1.23 million tonnes, up 38.2% y-o-y but down 8.23% m-o-m. Vietnam imported 1.10 million tonnes of coal from Australia, up 31.41% y-o-y but down 30.6% m-o-m.
Russia supplied Vietnam with 476,300 tonnes of coal, up 2.3 times y-o-y but down 12.5% m-o-m.
In the first nine months of 2023, Vietnam's total coal imports reached 37.77 million tonnes, up a remarkable 54.8% y-o-y. The total value of these imports in the same period was $5.36 billion, down 7.61 per cent from a year earlier.
