Vietnam's steel industry accounts for approximately 8% of total carbon emissions. The Vietnam Steel Association reported in September 2023 that the Vietnam steel industry plans to become carbon neutral by 2050 and is currently transitioning to an environmentally friendly production model.
In Vietnam, some steel factories have started to use the factory's waste heat to generate electricity in order to increase energy use and minimize negative impacts on the environment.
In addition, the Vietnamese government has initiated new actions and is expected to achieve carbon neutrality in the industrial and commercial sectors by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.
