Vietnam's steel imports in September totaled 1.55 million tons, an increase of 15.4% from the previous month and 10% from last year. Most of this increase was due to higher supply from China, which accounted for about 70% of total imports. China sent 1.1 million tons of steel products to Vietnam in September, up 33.7%.
Imports from Japan and Taiwan decreased by 25.7% and 25.3%, respectively. In October, imports from China are expected to decrease, which is related to the impact of the anti-dumping investigation on products from China.
In January-September, Vietnam imported a total of 12.3 million tons of steel, of which China supplied 8.3 million tons. Due to lower domestic demand, Vietnamese suppliers exported more steel during the same period.
