The Brazilian iron ore mine Pau Branco, owned by the French steel pipe manufacturer Vallourec, will resume production. Following authorisation from state mining and environmental authorities, the mine can now fully release the Cachoeirinha core tailings pile. Full production at Pau Branco can therefore be expected by the end of the second quarter of 2023 at the latest.
In January 2022, Pau Branco was temporarily suspended due to a flood that broke the Cachoeirinha core tailings pile. Four months later, in May, the mine began partially restarting its operations, utilising other tailings piles at a lower production capacity.
