Brazilian metallurgical and mining multinational company Vale SA exported about 16.3 million tonnes of iron ore in May, up 4.2% from the previous month, but 11.7% less than the same month a year earlier, according to statistics from the Brazilian National Association of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Industries (Sinferbase).
In the first five months of this year, exports amounted to about 70 million tonnes, 13.7% lower than in the same period last year.
Statistics from Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce (MDIC) showed that the country's iron ore exports reached 35.2 million tonnes, up 40.8% m-o-m and 38.3% y-o-y, the highest level since September last year.
