US Special Envoy to Iran Robert Malley said on Sunday that he was not confident that the 11-month nuclear talks between the parties in Vienna will conclude successfully any time soon.
Analysts say that if the re-activation of the 2015 agreement, which includes the restriction of the country's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions that have severely damaged Iran's economy, fails, political risks in the Middle East will increase and oil prices may increase further in the world.
"We thought we were close a few months ago"
"I can't be sure we're close to an agreement, we thought we were pretty close a few months ago," Malley told the Doha Forum. gives”.
Malley's comments came after Kemal Harrazi, adviser to Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced that they were very close to an agreement, but that its outcome would depend on the political will of the United States.
It is known that one of the main unanswered demands of Iran is the removal of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from the US list of foreign terrorist organizations. Noting that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are part of the army, Harrazi added that it is unacceptable to define a part of the national army as a terrorist.
Malley, on the other hand, said that no matter what decision is taken regarding this request, many sanctions imposed on Iran's Revolutionary Guards will continue.
