US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said she expects US-EU negotiations on steel tariffs to reach a fair agreement soon.
The United States and the European Union have been in talks for two years to reduce carbon emissions from steel mills and curb excess production capacity.
"We intend to conclude this negotiation on a Washington-Brussels basis and soon," Tai said at a conference hosted by the Atlantic Council on Friday.
Both sides need to reach an agreement by 31 October, otherwise there is a risk that tariffs on transatlantic trade worth billions of dollars will be reintroduced.
