US slab imports decreased sharply in June

US slab imports decreased by 30.9% y-o-y to 319,001.7 tons in June 2024. In June of the previous year, 461,439.5 tons of slab were imported. The decline was particularly observed in imports from Brazil, Mexico and other countries.

Imports from Brazil totaled 226,957.1 tons in the month, a decrease of 18.9% compared to the previous year. Imports from Mexico decreased by 47.8% to 46,700.1 tons. Imports from Canada decreased by 8.5% compared to the same month of the previous year to 38,470.2 tons. Imports from other countries decreased by a massive 86.3% to 6,874.2 tons.

On a monthly basis, slab imports in fiscal years 2023 and 2024 peaked at 494,225 tons in May 2024.
