According to data from the US International Trade Commission, US scrap exports in August totaled about 1.63 million tons, up 28% from July and 12% from the same month last year. The biggest buyer of US scrap was Türkiye.
Scrap exports to Türkiye totaled around 578,000 tons in August, up 56% on the previous month and 33% on the same period of the previous year. Türkiye was followed by Bangladesh with 296,000 tons, Mexico with 185,000 tons and Taiwan with 110,000 tons.
The total value of scrap exports realized in August was recorded as approximately 679 million dollars. This value increased by 24% compared to the previous month and 14% compared to the same period last year.
