The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has decided to lift the anti-dumping (AD) duty, which stood at 103.38%, on specific circular welded non-alloy steel pipes imported from Brazil. This duty, in effect since 1992, has now been revoked, marking a significant development in trade relations.
The removal of these duties is expected to facilitate an expansion of Brazil's exports, as the previously imposed additional charges had elevated the cost of Brazilian steel products. This move is anticipated to make Brazilian steel more competitive in the global market.
Notably, the AD duty cancellation comes after several years of its implementation. In 2023, the United States received circular welded steel pipes from Brazil valued at US$457,000, contributing to the country's broader global exports totaling US$22 million in the same year.
