In July of this year, primary aluminum production in the United States witnessed a year-on-year decline, as reported by the Aluminum Association. The total production for the month reached approximately 75,400 tons, indicating a 9.4% decrease compared to the same period last year. Throughout the first seven months of this year, the cumulative production amounted to 521,000 tons, marking an 18.7% decrease compared to the corresponding period from the previous year.
The United States boasts an annual production capacity of primary aluminum, standing at 1.76 million tons. Within this capacity, Alcoa accounts for 820,000 tons per year, Century Aluminum for 690,000 tons per year, and Magnitude 7 Metals for 250,000 tons per year.
Since the beginning of the year, the operational capacity of primary aluminum in the United States has remained steady at around 900,000 tons per year. However, one of Alcoa's two operating aluminum plants is still running at reduced capacity, and one of Century Aluminum's plants has gradually resumed production due to disruptions in the supply chain.
