The American metallurgical company Nucor has announced its decision to build a micro-reinforcement plant in the northwestern United States with a capacity of approximately 590,000 tonnes per year. This decision is still pending approval by the board of directors.
According to Nucor CEO Leon Topalian, the company has successfully implemented two similar projects in Florida and Missouri. A third valve plant is under construction in North Carolina and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025.
According to Leon Topalian, this business model has been successful. The microfactory produces a wide range of reinforcing bars and coils, enabling it to fulfil all the needs for these products in its region. At the same time, Nucor forecasts an increase in demand for valves in the United States due to the implementation of infrastructure projects.
The company currently has 15 plants in the United States producing small and medium-sized long products and shaped products. Of these, 4 are focused on the production of wire rod and high quality grades. The total capacity of all plants reaches 8.67 million tonnes per year.
