Ukraine produced 5.16 million tons of steel in the first ten months of 2023, which is 11.7% less than in the same period in 2022.
The decline in production followed the events after February 24, 2022 and the destruction of leading steel mills during the fighting since then.
Before the crisis, Ukraine was a major producer and exporter of steel. In 2022, steel production decreased by 70.7%, to 6.3 million tons.
Data published by the trade union also showed that in 2023 rolled products fell by 13% compared to the year before to 4.37 million tons, and pig iron production fell by 15.6% to 4.91 million tons.
