According to Ukrmetallurgprom, at the end of June 2024, Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises reduced steel production by 0.4% compared to May this year to 734.7 thousand tonnes, pig iron production by 3.8% to 628.6 thousand tonnes, and rolled metal production by 3.9% compared to the previous month to 571.5 thousand tonnes.
The reasons for the slowdown in monthly production rates are attributed to the unfavourable situation in the country's energy system, personnel shortages due to mobilisation and the incomplete reservation system, logistics problems and unfavourable conditions in the global steel market.
Despite the lower performance compared to May 2024, rolled steel production in June this year increased by 45.8%, steel production by 68.4% and pig iron production by 29.4% compared to June 2023.
According to the results for January-June 2024, rolled steel production of Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased by 32.3% compared to the same period in 2023 and reached 3.14 million tonnes. Steel production increased by 36.9% to 3.87 million tonnes, pig iron production increased by 22.2% to 3.47 million tonnes.
