The steel industry of Ukraine was negatively affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war, which led to a sharp decrease in steel production in 2022.
Russia, after 2014, the Ukrainian steel mills began to take over, and Azovstal iron and steel works were destroyed during the war, seized Illich iron and steel works were severely damaged and logistics channels, and all of them have had an impact on Ukrainian steel industry.
In addition, Russia launched an attack on critical infrastructure in Ukraine, which disrupted power supplies and also affected steel production activities.
As a result, Ukraine lost 15.1 million tons of steel production in 2022 out of the actual production of only 6.3 million tons. Pig iron production also decreased by 3.3 times, while processed steel production decreased by 3.6 times.
